The Amsterdam Westerpark and Westergasfabriek

Close to the old part of Amsterdam city center and the Jordaan, there has emerged a cultural
day and nightlife haven for many.
The Westerpark or Westergasfabriek are one and the same and offer a multitude of activities for many different lovers of life.
It is housed in buildings formerly belonging to Amsterdam's first coal and gas factory.
It even was the place where Hollands first train ran from Amsterdam to Haarlem and Zandvoort at the Dutch coast.

You will not only find a park with two tennis courts and a soccer field, you will also find several very good Restaurants, a Theater, a Cinema, two Nightclubs, a TV Studio, a Baker, a sound studio and many other small entrepreneurs, all housed in Historic buildings.

The park is visited by around 500.000 people in the span of a single year.
In summer many friends and families go there to have outside barbeques and little parties.
Events are constantly being organized, like outdoor concerts, a Circus or fancy fair.
The Sunday market once a month is also highly recommended.

In 2011 the year was ended with the creation of an indoor Ice skating-ring that was visited by several thousand people as well as Circus Zanzibar.
On New Year's night itself the different parties drew in a crowd of over 10.000 people.

Many people still use the park for walking their dog, jogging or other sports activities, like boot-camps. Although it is so actively used by all these fine folks, the park still breaths a tranquil atmosphere.
Summer or winter it always has something to offer to mostly anybody.
It is a must go see thing whenever you visit Amsterdam.

So far it facilitated International Fashion, Art, Game and Media Fairs amongst others.
The famous Holland Festival was visited by the Dutch Royal Queen there.

Young and old, rich and poor, they all find something to their liking at the Westergasfabriek.
